History of Detroit Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings are one of the most storied hockey franchises in NHL history.  With 11 Stanley Cup Championship banners hanging from the rafters of Joe Louis Arena, the Detroit Red Wings have the most Cups in their possession of any United States-based hockey team in NHL history.  Detroit has had a love affair with the Red Wings since their beginnings in 1926 and their days at the old Olympia Stadium at Grand River and McGraw that began in 1927.

First known as the Detroit Cougars and then the Detroit Falcons, Detroit’s professional hockey team finally became the Detroit Red Wings in 1932.
