QUESTIONS: What are they going to do with Tiger Stadium?
ANSWER: No one seems to know. Unfortunately, Tiger Stadium is owned by the city of Detroit -- and that has proved to be a huge impediment to progress.
Many proposals for alternative uses of Tiger Stadium have been submitted to the city and the Detroit Tigers -- including one from us. Regrettably, not one proposal made its way to first base.
Our plan called for the Detroit Tigers to relocate a minor league affiliate to a scaled-down version of Tiger Stadium that more closely resembles Navin Field. We proposed that the Tigers cross-promote the teams and the venues by coordinating their home schedules so that one team would not compete directly with the other. While some individuals at the Tigers loved the concept, it never got very far.
A major part of the problem is that the city of Detroit has outsourced the maintenance of Tiger Stadium to Olympia Entertainment, which is owned and operated by the Ilitch family, the owners of the Detroit Tigers. The city pays the Ilitches between $200,000 and $400,000 a year to allegedly maintain the stadium. However, the old ball park has fallen into a severe state of disrepair under their watch.
QUESTION: Are you ever going to relocate near Comerica Park?
ANSWER: While we will always keep all of our options open, moving down to Comerica Park has never appealed much to us. For many of our customers, our store is the last vestige of their fond memories of attending games at Tiger Stadium.
QUESTION: Are you open on Sundays when the Tigers are playing at Comerica Park?
ANSWER: Yes, but only for day games. Almost all Sunday games are day games, however, there are Sunday night games every now and then. Our Sunday game day hours are 10AM 'til game time.
QUESTION: Did you really start your business by selling peanuts on the street corner outside of Tiger Stadium?
ANSWER: It's the gospel truth.
